Everything you need to
remember the web

What were the key takeaways from my Notion notes?
Here's a summary:
1. Always index foreign keys
2. Review normalization before deploy
3. Use token bucket for rate limiting
Which note mentioned React?
Your note "React performance" from medium.com mentions that useMemo should only be used after profiling with React DevTools.
Rich Note Capture
Highlight any text to save it as a quoted selection. Add a title and description for context. Capture YouTube timestamps and screenshots directly from video pages.
Smart Folders
Create custom folders and organize notes across different websites into one place. Notes can belong to both a source URL and a folder simultaneously. Pro feature.
Pin & Prioritize
Pin your most important notes so they always appear at the top of any source or folder view. Pinned notes get priority in the dashboard summary cards.
Export to Markdown
Download any source or folder as a clean .md file with full metadata — titles, timestamps, quoted selections, and source URLs — ready for Obsidian, Notion, or any editor.
Private by Default
All notes are saved to your device's local storage first. Cloud sync is entirely optional. Log in with Google to back up across devices — or stay fully local and offline forever.
Instant Search
Search across all notes in real-time from the dashboard topbar. Results filter across both titles and content as you type — no waiting, no page reload.
Mobile App (PWA)
Install Kontexa on your phone — no App Store needed. Open the mobile URL in Safari or Chrome and tap "Add to Home Screen" for a native app experience.
8 Color Themes
Switch between Nova, Midnight, Aurora, Forest, Parchment, Slate, Sunset and Arctic. Your preference syncs across the extension and the mobile app.

Common questions

Where are my notes stored?
By default, all notes are saved to your browser's local storage — meaning they live entirely on your device and are available offline. No account is required. If you log in with Google and upgrade to Pro, notes are additionally backed up to our cloud servers for cross-device sync.
Is my data safe in the cloud?
We take security seriously. However, Kontexa uses free cloud hosting which, in rare cases, could experience data loss. We always recommend treating your local device as your primary backup. You can export notes at any time to Markdown for safekeeping.
How does the AI assistant work?
The AI assistant uses your own Google Gemini API key, which you enter in the settings. This means your note content is sent to Google's Gemini API when you ask a question — but it is never used to train models or stored by us. Your API key is saved locally in your browser only.
How do I install the mobile app?
Open context-notes.onrender.com/mobile in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android. On iOS tap the Share icon then "Add to Home Screen". On Android tap the three-dot menu then "Install App" or "Add to Home Screen". The app installs instantly with no App Store needed — it's a Progressive Web App (PWA).
Can I add notes without using the extension popup?
Yes. When you open any source page or folder in the dashboard, there is an "Add Note" button in the top right. This lets you write notes with a title, content, and optional source URL directly from the dashboard — no need to be on the actual webpage.
What happens to my notes if I log out?
When logging out, you get two options: keep your notes on the device (they remain in local storage, fully accessible) or wipe them from the device. Your cloud backup is unaffected. You can log back in any time to re-sync from the cloud.
Does Kontexa work on all websites?
Kontexa works on virtually all standard web pages. Some browser-restricted pages (like the Chrome Web Store itself or browser settings pages) cannot run extensions — this is a Chrome security restriction, not a limitation of Kontexa.
